Genetic analysis of neuroimaging-based measurements is a novel methodological approach that we attempt to apply to estimate the fraction of genetic contribution to overall morphological variability of cerebral cortex. Our specific interests are in the genetics of cerebral gyrification and genetics of cerebral aging.
We are in the process of collecting imaging data as a part of the Genetics of Brain Structure and Function project. This project is a collaboration between Research Imaging Center (Dr. David Glahn) and Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (Dr. John Blangero).
High resolution stuctural, DTI and other images are being collected for human and animal subjects. We are in process of development of novel analysis methods to extract information that describes regional anatomical variability among subjects. This data is then subjected to genetic analysis in order to indetify individual genetic factors contributing to intersubject variability.
