Research Interests
Dr. Laird’s research deals with integrating neuroinformatics tools and network analysis methods, such as structural equation modeling (SEM), activation likelihood estimation (ALE), and replicator dynamics network analysis (RDNA), in the field of human functional brain mapping. Her expertise lies in meta-analysis of PET and fMRI data, which searches for regions of concordance across multiple studies. In addition to her research and teaching duties, Dr. Laird is responsible for the administration and development of BrainMap, an online community database of functional neuroimaging data.

Teaching
Dr. Laird serves as instructor for the graduate course entitled “Meta-Analysis in Cognitive Neuroimaging” that is cross-listed as an interdisciplinary course at UTHSCSA (INTD 5046) and in the biology and psychology departments at UTSA (BIO 6973 and PSY 6973). In this course, students are guided in choosing a meta-analysis topic, searching Medline to find the relevant literature, coding the papers into BrainMap, and performing an ALE meta-analysis. At the end of the semester, students give an oral presentation of their results and write a term paper written in traditional scientific format.
